Soujiro kept a smile on his face. "I don't wish to fight either, if you'd just let me go. But, it seems you aren't going to do that," he said, sliding into his Battoujutsu stance, his right hand slightly down.

Saito smirked. "You'd take on ten policement, plus myself?" The people around them were starting to panic. Saito ignored them and drew his katana, standing behind Soujiro.

Saito assumed Gatotsu stance. "Baka..." The policeman swung his blade at Soujiro.

Soujiro tapped his foot and took off at the policeman in front of him. He disappeared right before contact, causing Saito to be face-to-face with his comrade.

Saito had seen a brief indent in the ground right as Soujiro vanished. "What!" No civilian could be that fast!

Soujiro's hat had fallen off when he disappeared. It touched the ground when Soujiro reappeared behind Saito. With a smile, he said, "Perhaps you already know now, but I'll tell you this; I am no ordinary civilian." Soujiro aimed a strike with the hilt of his sword at the back of Saito's head.

Saito performed a full barrel roll from ground to midair to evade. "I take it you are one of Shishio's men then." He assumed his stance again.

Soujiro held his sword with one hand in a lower guard position. "Now what makes you say that?" he asked with a smile.

Saito lunged at Soujiro with the Gatotsu. "Because it's unlikely a civilian would have a skill like that honed to such an extent!"

Soujiro disappeared again, eyeing the other policemen. With a smile, he turned to Saito again and said, "True, but that does not mean that I work for Makoto Shishio."

He smirked. "Then who did teach you those skills? You're no samurai... you're far too young to have fought in the Bakumatsu." He performed another Gatotsu.

Soujiro spun his sword, not dodging this time. His blade scraped against Saito's in a block as the sparks flew. He jumped back and smirked. "Very good. I guess you are no ordinary policemen either, are you..." Soujiro paused, narrowing his eyes slightly. "...Mibu wolf, Saito Hajime?"

Saito immediately bent into a sideslash at Soujiro. "I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Shishio has his dogs whipped very well I see."
